BIOGRAPHY

“Music is endless!” This is the belief of Ayanda Zungu, a vibrant young lady otherwise known as AyaZungu. AyaZungu has been a recording artist since 2010 recording with her group called Rhythm and Flow and recently decided to brave the solo route. She has perfected one instrument that she has proved very capable of mastering - her voice.

Like most well-known artists, she was charmed by music at a tender age and recalls singing songs from musicals, such as Sarafina, as a toddler along with her sister. She also honed her singing skill at Church while singing in the youth Church Choir.

The 32-year-old graphic design graduate and photographer says her sound has chosen her. She attests that the sound slants more to Urban/Neo Soul. AyaZungu, however, believes that she has not even scratched the surface in her quest to unearth the vast talent and sound bestowed to her.

AyaZungu has shared the microphone with artists such as Uju, Amanda Black and Vusi Nova. She has also graced the Ram Jam Stage @ the SABC and The YFM Live n ReYired stage. She has visited Power Fm, SaFm, Cliff Central to name a few, for interviews. She was featured on Daily Sun’s SUN BUZZ and a show called "Brothers and Sisters with Soul" which was aired on SABC1. In 2018, AyaZungu was invited by the Liaison Office of South Africa in Taiwan to represent her country in an event they were hosting in Taipei. She did so by sharing her songs and also original South African Songs.

“There’s always something else one can do. I know I have not even touched the tip of this iceberg. I look forward to the journey ahead that will include meeting and working with different artists,” says AyaZungu.

Like many of her peers, AyaZungu is a non-conformist. Her worldview is one that challenges the status quo and refuses to be boxed and confined.

“Can we make MUSIC? Can we experiment and experience the sound and give what feels good as opposed to being boxed into one genre? Life should be about finding and maintaining inner freedom, that freedom is life!” muses AyaZungu.

Flowing from her musing is the single ‘Freedom’. To AyaZungu, freedom is as simple as ‘dancing with the raindrops’.
The single which features Kevin Maduna is available on all the music purchasing sites online.

Currently, AyaZungu has worked with Boddhi Satva on a single called “Thinking about you” which is due to be released in December 2020. She is also on a quest to release her long awaited EP.
